The Friends of Kennesaw Parks Foundation was originally founded as the Friends of Swift-Cantrell Park Foundation. The Friends of Swift-Cantrell Park Foundation has contributed over $100,000 towards projects such as the inclusive playground expansion, skate park, shade features, and splash pad. With many projects having been completed, the Foundation was renamed in 2024 to include support for all parks in the city of Kennesaw.

About Swift-Cantrell Park

Swift-Cantrell Park serves as one of the premier recreation, relaxation and central gathering places for Cobb County residents. At 42 acres, Swift-Cantrell is the city of Kennesaw’s largest community park. The current features of this park include: two playground sets, three dog parks, a skate park, three picnic pavilions, two restroom buildings, one mile x 12-foot-wide perimeter trail, half-mile x 8-foot-wide inner-loop trail, a splash pad, shade structures, acres of open turf for passive recreation, and drinking fountains. There are future plans for improvements and additions to help the park meet the residents’ wants and needs.

The park houses three 1,320 square feet open-air pavilions. Each pavilion is complete with picnic tables and can accommodate up to 60 people. Reserve a Pavilion through the city of Kennesaw parks department.

History of Swift-Cantrell Park

In September 2004, the citizens of Kennesaw approved a Parks and Recreation bond to purchase a 42-acre property and develop the Swift-Cantrell Park. The Swift property was purchased in November 2004. The following year an eight-person Steering Committee was formed to guide the creation of the master plan for the park. The steering committee selected WK Dickerson as the consulting firm to develop the Swift-Cantrell Master Plan.

To create a Master Plan for a park that reflected the needs and wants of the community WK Dickerson relied on the participation and input of the county staff and officials, steering committee members, and user groups/citizens. The property is approximately 85% open fields, making it a great location to house many recreational facilities.
